Jingle Jazzy Bells

70.00100.00

Jingle Bells, originally published as The One Horse Open Sleigh in September 1857, began its life with no explicit connection to Christmas. However, its lively melody and winter imagery quickly linked it to the holiday season. The first recording of Jingle Bells was made in 1889 on an Edison cylinder, making it one of the earliest songs ever recorded, though this version has since been lost. During the 1930s and 1940s, the song gained new life through the interpretations of jazz icons Benny Goodman and Glenn Miller.
Building on this rich jazz legacy, Joachim Simoens offers a vibrant new arrangement of Jingle Bells in the style of a jazz waltz. This fresh, inventive take transforms the beloved Christmas classic into a delightful and unexpected musical experience.

James Lord Pierpont (1822 – 1893) was an American composer, songwriter, and musician best known for creatng Jingle Bells, one of the most enduring holiday songs in history. Despite his association with Christmas music, Pierpont’s life was anything but conven􀀪onal, and the song itself has a story full of surprises.

Born in Boston, Massachusetts, Pierpont left home to join a whaling ship, later trying his luck during the California Gold Rush in 1849. Though his ventures into gold mining proved unsuccessful, these experiences added color to his life and crea􀀪vity. In the 1850s, Pierpont se􀀿led in Savannah, Georgia, where he served as a music director at the Unitarian Church led by his brother, Reverend John Pierpont Jr. It was during this time that he composed Jingle Bells, originally titled The One Horse Open Sleigh, in 1857. The song was first performed at a Thanksgiving church service but quickly gained popularity for its catchy melody and lively depiction of a sleigh ride through the snow. Pierpont’s musical talent continued to shine, though none of his other works achieved the lasting fame of Jingle Bells.
